The Underrated Metric That Separates Real Projects from Vaporware

By CANDY News Desk · 2026-09-07 · Blog

Everybody watches price. It's the number that flashes, the thing that triggers emotions, the first thing anyone checks. And it's also one of the least useful signals for figuring out which projects will actually be around in a few years.

So what should you watch instead? Real, sticky usage. The unglamorous metric that quietly separates real projects from beautifully-marketed vaporware.

Here's the logic. Price can be pumped, gamed, and inflated by hype for a surprisingly long time. But actual usage — people transacting, holding, coming back, doing things on the network because they get value from it — is much harder to fake. A project can buy attention. It can't easily buy genuine, repeated use.

When you're evaluating something, look past the token chart and ask: is anyone actually using this? Are the numbers growing organically, or only when there's a rewards program bribing people to show up? Do users stick around after the incentives dry up, or do they vanish? A busy Twitter account and a thin, empty product is a classic warning sign.

This is why seasoned investors get more excited about a payment card people swipe, a game people play, or infrastructure other things get built on than about whatever's trending that afternoon. Usage is demand that doesn't evaporate when the mood shifts.

It's not a magic formula — some genuinely useful things still fail to find an audience, and timing matters. But if you had to pick one signal to weight heavily, real sticky usage beats price every time.

Not financial advice. Do your own research.
