Bitcoin Developers Introduce Strategy to Mitigate Quantum Risks

Bitcoin developers have integrated a new output type to counter quantum threats, but it comes with trade-offs in fees and privacy.

Developers in the Bitcoin community have successfully overcome a significant documentation milestone, which was met with urgent reactions from the crypto Twitter sphere. However, this was not an immediate response to a critical security issue. On February 11, a new proposal, identified as Pay-to-Merkle-Root (BIP-0360), was included in the official Bitcoin Improvement Proposals (BIPs) repository.

Importantly, this addition does not require any nodes to perform upgrades, and there is no established timeline for its activation as of now. The BIPs repository itself has issued a caution that the act of publication does not imply an immediate implementation.
