XRP Ledger's Batch Upgrade Delayed to October 9 at the Earliest

By CANDY News Desk · 2026-09-27 · News

A long-awaited upgrade to the XRP Ledger has been pushed back by at least ten days. According to CoinDesk, the network's "Batch" upgrade now can't activate before October 9, after a brief drop in validator support reset its countdown.

It's a small technical hiccup, but it shows exactly how the XRP Ledger's upgrade system is designed to work.

What happened

The XRP Ledger doesn't change its rules on a single company's say-so. New features, called amendments, need to be approved by the network's trusted validators, the independent computers that confirm transactions.

The rule is strict: an amendment must keep the support of more than 80% of trusted validators for two weeks in a row. If support dips below that line even briefly, the clock resets to zero.

That's what happened here. Batch had been counting down since September 15. Then support briefly fell below the 80% threshold, wiping out the time it had built up. On September 25, the upgrade, now called BatchV1_1, regained the backing of 30 of 35 trusted validators. If that support holds for two full weeks, the earliest activation would be around 14:46 UTC on October 9.

What Batch would do

Batch lets users bundle up to eight transactions together and submit them as one.

The most interesting part is support for "all-or-nothing" transactions. Either every step in the bundle succeeds, or none of them do. That's useful for things like swapping a tokenized asset for payment at the same time, so neither side is left exposed if something fails halfway through. In finance, this is known as delivery-versus-payment, and it's a big deal for tokenized real-world assets.

A second attempt

This isn't Batch's first try. The original version was withdrawn before it activated, after developers found a critical flaw in how it checked signatures. A corrected version shipped in August as part of version 3.3.0 of the software that runs the ledger.

Given that history, some caution from validators isn't surprising. A brief wobble in support could simply reflect validators updating software or double-checking the fix.

Why the delay isn't a disaster

For XRP holders and developers, a ten-day slip is frustrating but not alarming. The reset is the system working as intended: upgrades only go live when there's sustained, broad agreement among validators, not a momentary majority.

That protects the network from rushed changes, which matters more after the first version had to be pulled.

What to watch

The bottom line

The XRP Ledger's Batch upgrade is still on track, just later than hoped. If validators keep their support steady, October 9 is the new date to watch for a feature that could make tokenized asset trading on the XRP Ledger safer and simpler.
