Nov. 7 (CandyPulse) — DeFi's biggest lender wants to offer something banks have had for decades: a loan rate that doesn't change. Aave Labs has acquired the team and technology behind Avon, an onchain credit protocol built around fixed and variable rates.

Why fixed rates matter

On most DeFi lending platforms, including Aave today, interest rates float: they rise and fall with demand. That's fine for traders, but it's hard for businesses and institutions that need to know what a loan will cost next month. A fixed rate locks in the price of borrowing, much like a fixed-rate mortgage.

Avon's order book approach matches lenders and borrowers at agreed rates, rather than using a single pool rate. Bringing that into Aave could open DeFi lending to a much wider set of users. Aave reportedly holds more than $30 billion in deposits and over $12 billion in active loans, so even a small fixed-rate market could be significant.
